Where to Find Your 1095-A and What to Do If It’s Missing

You can find your Form 1095-A in your Health Insurance Marketplace account, either at Healthcare.gov or on your state’s exchange website. The Marketplace has to send this form by January 31 each year, so your 2025 coverage form should be available by the end of January 2026.1Internal Revenue Service. Downloading It From Healthcare.gov

If you enrolled through Healthcare.gov, the digital copy is usually available before the paper form arrives in the mail. Here’s how to pull it:2HealthCare.gov. How to Find Your Form 1095-A Online

  • Sign into your Healthcare.gov account and select the correct year’s application. For 2025 coverage, choose your 2025 application, not 2026.
  • Click “Tax Forms” in the left-side menu.
  • Under “Your Form 1095-A,” click “Download PDF.” If you see a form marked “Corrected,” use that version instead of the original.

The downloaded PDF is legally equivalent to the paper copy. Save it, print a copy for your records, and use it when you file.

If You Used a State Exchange

Healthcare.gov won’t have your form if you enrolled through a state-based exchange like Covered California or NY State of Health. You have to log into that state’s Marketplace website instead. Who Actually Sends This Form

Only the Health Insurance Marketplace issues Form 1095-A. Your insurance company, your employer, and the IRS do not generate it.3Internal Revenue Service. What to Do If Your Form Never Arrives

Check your Marketplace account first. Healthcare.gov says the form may appear online anywhere from mid-January through February 1, often before the mailed copy shows up.5HealthCare.gov. How to Use Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement

If it isn’t in your account either, call the Marketplace at 1-800-318-2596 to request a replacement.6Internal Revenue Service. Do not file your return until the form is in hand. The IRS is clear on this: if you’re expecting a 1095-A, wait for it.7Internal Revenue Service. If the wait is pushing you against the April deadline, file for an extension.

Fixing Errors on the Form

If your 1095-A shows wrong coverage dates, incorrect premium amounts, or other substantive mistakes, don’t file with the bad data. Demographic errors are the exception. If the only problem is a misspelled name, a wrong date of birth, or an incorrect Social Security number, you don’t need a corrected 1095-A. Corrected Forms After You’ve Already Filed

If you already filed using the original 1095-A and later get a corrected version, the IRS says you do not need to amend your return. That holds true even when the corrected numbers would mean additional tax owed.6Internal Revenue Service. Voided Forms Follow the Opposite Rule

A voided form is not the same as a corrected one. If you receive a 1095-A with the “VOID” box checked, or a letter telling you to disregard a previous form, the Marketplace is saying the form was issued in error. Do not use a voided 1095-A or the original it replaces to claim the premium tax credit. If you already filed with the original before learning it was voided, you should file an amended return on Form 1040-X.6Internal Revenue Service. Corrected, Incorrect or Voided Form 1095-A That’s the reverse of the rule for corrections, and mixing the two up can cause problems. Why Tracking Down This Form Matters

If you received advance premium tax credits during the year, filing Form 8962 to reconcile them is required.9Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 USC 36B – Refundable Credit for Coverage Under a Qualified Health Plan The reconciliation compares what you got in advance against what you actually qualify for based on your final income, and it decides whether you owe money back or get more credit.

Skipping the step is costly. The IRS says taxpayers who don’t reconcile won’t be eligible for advance credits or cost-sharing reductions the following year.10Internal Revenue Service.
