When Does DoorDash Send 1099 Forms? January 31

DoorDash is required to send your 1099 form by January 31 of the year after you earned the income, covering the previous calendar year’s Dasher pay. For your 2025 earnings, that form goes out by January 31, 2026. It arrives electronically through the Dasher app if you consented to electronic delivery, or by mail to the address on your Dasher profile if you didn’t.1Internal Revenue Service. What January 31 Actually Means

The January 31 date is a send-by deadline, not a receive-by deadline. Electronic copies usually appear in the Dasher app a few days before the cutoff. Paper copies can take until mid-February to land in your mailbox, depending on the postal service. If January 31 falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the deadline shifts to the next business day.

If you opted into electronic delivery and nothing has shown up by February 1, check your app’s tax section and your email spam folder before assuming it’s lost. DoorDash previously delivered forms through Stripe Express, but the current process runs directly through the Dasher app.

Which Form You Get and When You Get One

Most Dashers receive Form 1099-NEC, which reports nonemployee compensation paid to independent contractors.2Internal Revenue Service. Independent Contractor Defined The number on it is your gross earnings before mileage, fees, or any other expenses come out.

The threshold for getting one has changed. For the 2025 tax year, DoorDash must issue a 1099-NEC if it paid you $600 or more. Starting with 2026 earnings, that threshold jumps to $2,000 under the One, Big, Beautiful Bill.3Internal Revenue Service. 2026 Publication 1099 If you earn between $600 and $1,999 dashing in 2026, DoorDash won’t be required to send you a form for that year. The income is still taxable and you still have to report it.

A separate form, the 1099-K, applies to payments processed through third-party payment networks and triggers only at $20,000 in gross payments and more than 200 transactions.4Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 U.S. Code 6050W Most Dashers never see one.

If Backup Withholding Applies

If DoorDash doesn’t have a valid taxpayer identification number for you, or the number on file doesn’t match IRS records, DoorDash may be required to withhold 24% of your pay and remit it to the IRS.5Internal Revenue Service. Publication 15 (Circular E), Employer’s Tax Guide Any withheld amount will show on your 1099, and you claim credit for it when you file. Confirm your Social Security number or EIN in your Dasher profile to avoid this.

How to Access Your 1099

If you consented to electronic delivery, log into the Dasher app and open the tax section. Your form appears there, typically a few days before January 31.

If you didn’t consent, DoorDash mails a paper copy to the address in your Dasher profile. This is a common failure point. If you moved during the year and didn’t update your profile, the form goes to your old address. Update it well before January.

If Your 1099 Is Late, Missing, or Wrong

Start with the app. Check the tax section even if you don’t recall opting into electronic delivery. Verify the mailing address on your profile. If neither turns anything up, contact DoorDash support to confirm whether a form was issued and where it was sent.

If you still don’t have the form by the end of February and DoorDash hasn’t resolved it, call the IRS at 800-829-1040. You’ll need your name, address, Social Security number, and DoorDash’s contact information, and the IRS will follow up with DoorDash on your behalf.6Internal Revenue Service. What to Do When a W-2 or Form 1099 Is Missing or Incorrect

Do not wait for a missing 1099 to file your return. The IRS expects you to file on time using your own records. Your Dasher app earnings summary and bank deposits give you what you need to calculate gross income. One thing to know: Form 4852, the substitute form used when a W-2 or 1099-R is missing, does not cover a missing 1099-NEC. For missing nonemployee compensation, you just report the income from your records.

If the Amount Is Wrong

Compare the 1099 figure against your in-app earnings summary for the full year. If it looks off, contact DoorDash and request a corrected 1099. If a corrected form arrives after you’ve already filed and the numbers don’t match what you reported, file Form 1040-X to amend your return.6Internal Revenue Service. No 1099 Doesn’t Mean No Tax

This trips up a lot of Dashers. The 1099 is an information return the IRS uses to cross-check what you report. It has no bearing on whether the income is taxable.7Internal Revenue Service. 1099-MISC, Independent Contractors, and Self-Employed If your Dasher pay falls below the reporting threshold, DoorDash doesn’t send a form, but you still owe tax on every dollar. With the $2,000 threshold arriving for 2026, more Dashers will fall under it, and more will wrongly assume they’re off the hook.

You report Dasher earnings on Schedule C (Profit or Loss From Business), attached to your Form 1040.8Internal Revenue Service. Instructions for Schedule C (Form 1040) Schedule C is where you enter your gross income and subtract your deductible business expenses, including mileage. The net profit flows into the rest of your return.

Two dates to keep in mind once your 1099 shows up: April 15 for filing your return, and, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more, quarterly estimated payments throughout the year since DoorDash withholds nothing from your pay.9Internal Revenue Service.
