If you need your Walgreens W-2 as a former employee, you have three routes: log in to the Walgreens employee portal if your credentials still work, use the third-party payroll service Walgreens directs former staff to, or call the Walgreens HR or payroll department and ask where your form is hosted. Employers have to furnish W-2s by January 31, with the deadline sliding to the next business day when that falls on a weekend.1eCFR. 26 CFR 31.6051-1 – Statements for Employees
Getting Your W-2 as a Current Employee
The fastest route is Walgreens’ employee self-service platform, People Central, reached through the WBA Worldwide portal. If you’ve consented to electronic delivery, your W-2 posts as a downloadable PDF as soon as the company publishes it, often in mid-to-late January and before any paper copies go into the mail.
Log in and open the payroll or tax statements section. If you haven’t opted into electronic delivery yet, you can usually do that from inside the portal. Opting in means no paper copy in the mail unless you specifically request one.
First-time users generally need their employee ID and a partial Social Security number to register. Save those credentials somewhere you can find them in January. A locked account is a solvable problem, but it eats days you may not have.
Getting Your W-2 After You’ve Left Walgreens
Portal access sometimes continues for a stretch after you separate, but not always. When your old login stops working, Walgreens typically points former employees to a third-party payroll service where past W-2s are archived. These services verify identity with your former employee ID and Social Security number, and some ask for a company-specific employer code during registration.
If you don’t know which portal to use, or you no longer have your employee ID, call the Walgreens HR or payroll department. They can tell you where the forms live and walk you through access. The archive usually holds several prior years of W-2s, so you can pull older forms in the same session if you need them.
Update your mailing address with HR or payroll as soon as you leave. A W-2 sent to your last address on file counts as properly furnished, which puts the responsibility for a current address on you.
When to Expect the Form and What to Do If It’s Late
Electronic W-2s often appear in the portal by mid-to-late January. Paper copies are mailed by January 31, so depending on postal delivery yours may land a few days into February.2Internal Revenue Service. General Instructions for Forms W-2 and W-3 (2026) If a paper copy arrives damaged or gets lost, call payroll and ask for a duplicate. Replacements usually take seven to ten business days, so don’t leave that request until April.
If Your W-2 Never Shows Up
You’ve checked the portal, called payroll, confirmed your address, and still have nothing. The IRS has a specific sequence for this.
Call the IRS After the End of February
Start with Walgreens directly. If that hasn’t produced the form by the end of February, call the IRS at 800-829-1040. The IRS will send Walgreens a letter requesting the W-2 and will mail you Form 4852, a substitute W-2 you can use on your return.3Internal Revenue Service. If You Don’t Get a W-2 or Your W-2 Is Wrong
File With Estimated Figures Using Form 4852
If the deadline is closing in and the W-2 still hasn’t come, file with Form 4852 attached in place of the W-2. Use the year-to-date figures from your last pay stub of the year to estimate wages and withholdings, and explain on the form what you did to try to get the missing W-2.4Internal Revenue Service. W-2 – Additional, Incorrect, Lost, Non-Receipt, Omitted Expect some delay on your refund while the IRS verifies your numbers. If the real W-2 arrives later and its figures don’t match what you estimated, you’ll have to file an amended return on Form 1040-X.
Pull a Wage and Income Transcript
You can also request a Wage and Income Transcript from the IRS. It mirrors the W-2 data your employer reported to the Social Security Administration. Use the Get Transcript tool online or mail Form 4506-T.5Internal Revenue Service. Topic No. 159, How to Get a Wage and Income Transcript One caveat: current-year data often isn’t available until well into filing season, since the IRS has to process what employers submitted.
File an Extension If You’d Rather Wait
If you’d prefer to hold out for the real W-2, file Form 4868 for an automatic six-month extension.6Internal Revenue Service. About Form 4868, Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File The extension buys you time to file, not time to pay. If you think you’ll owe, estimate that amount and pay it when you submit the extension to avoid interest and penalties.
Fixing Errors on Your W-2
When your W-2 arrives, check your name, Social Security number, and the wage and withholding figures. Any mistake there can turn into an IRS notice later.
If something looks wrong, contact Walgreens payroll or HR right away. Once the error is confirmed, the company issues a corrected Form W-2c.7Internal Revenue Service. About Form W-2 C, Corrected Wage and Tax Statements There’s no fixed deadline for employers to issue corrections, so how fast this happens depends on how quickly payroll works your request. If Walgreens hasn’t fixed an incorrect W-2 by the end of February, you can call the IRS at 800-829-1040 or visit an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center for help.
If you already filed before the corrected form arrived, or if you filed with estimated figures on Form 4852 and the actual numbers came in different, file an amended return on Form 1040-X and attach the corrected W-2c.8Internal Revenue Service. File an Amended Return Amending isn’t optional when your filed figures don’t match what the employer reported. The IRS already has the employer’s version, and a mismatch will eventually generate a notice.9Internal Revenue Service. What to Do When a W-2 or Form 1099 Is Missing or Incorrect
