How to Get Your W-2 as a Former AT&T Employee

To get your W-2 from AT&T as a former employee, sign in to the HR Access portal at hraccess.att.com using your Former Employee Global Logon, or call the AT&T Benefits Center at 877-722-0020 to request a mailed paper copy. Federal law requires AT&T to furnish the form by January 31 following the tax year, and for the 2026 tax year the IRS employer deadline is February 1, 2027.1Internal Revenue Service. General Instructions for Forms W-2 and W-3 (2026)

Getting Your W-2 Online Through HR Access

Go to hraccess.att.com and find the “Retiree, Former Employee, or Dependent” section, then click Login. Sign in with the Former Employee Global Logon credentials you set up around the time you left. Once you’re in, open Tax Services and select the W-2 for the year you need. You can view it on screen or download a printable PDF.

Here is the catch that trips people up. AT&T requires you to create the Former Employee Global Logon before you actually leave, within a roughly 14-day window that starts when your termination date is entered in the system. Miss that window and the portal is effectively locked to you. In that case, the phone options below are your route.

If you did register but can’t remember your credentials, try the “Forgot Password” or “Forgot User Name” links and answer the security questions you set up. If those fail, call 855-823-3723, the Equifax Tax Form Management line AT&T uses for W-2 distribution. They can reset access or arrange a paper copy.

Requesting a Paper Copy by Phone

If you never set up online access, or the portal won’t cooperate, calling is the most reliable path. Two numbers handle W-2 requests for former AT&T employees:

  • AT&T Benefits Center at 877-722-0020, the general benefits line that handles W-2 requests, address changes, and other post-separation questions. Representatives are available 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday.
  • HR OneStop at 888-722-1787, which handles tax document requests more directly and can be faster if that’s all you need.

Have your Social Security number and former employee ID ready when you call. If you’ve moved since leaving AT&T, update your mailing address on the same call. AT&T mails W-2s to the last address on file, and an outdated address is the most common reason the form never arrives. Paper copies take about ten business days to reach you once they go out.

Federal law requires AT&T to furnish your W-2 whether or not you still work there, and to mail it to your last known address by January 31.2Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 U.S. Code 6051 – Receipts for Employees You don’t have to pick it up in person, and AT&T can’t require that.

If Your W-2 Never Arrives

If nothing has shown up by mid-February, don’t just wait. The IRS has a specific escalation path, and following it protects you.

Call AT&T again first, at either number above, and document the call: the date, who you spoke with, and what they told you. If you still have no W-2 by the end of February, call the IRS at 800-829-1040. Have your name, address, phone number, Social Security number, dates of employment, and AT&T’s name and address ready. The IRS will contact AT&T on your behalf and ask them to send the missing form.3Internal Revenue Service. If You Don’t Get a W-2 or Your W-2 Is Wrong

If it still doesn’t arrive in time to file, you have a fallback. IRS Form 4852 is an official substitute for a missing W-2. Use your final pay stubs to estimate total wages and taxes withheld, then attach Form 4852 to your return in place of the W-2. The form asks you to explain how you calculated the numbers, so keep those stubs.4Internal Revenue Service. Form 4852, Substitute for Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement The IRS may take extra time processing a return filed with Form 4852 while it verifies your figures, which can delay any refund.5Internal Revenue Service. W-2 – Additional, Incorrect, Lost, Non-Receipt, Omitted

If you need more runway, file Form 4868 for an automatic extension to October 15. An extension gives you more time to file but not more time to pay. If you’ll owe, estimate the amount and pay by the April due date to avoid interest and penalties.6Internal Revenue Service. Get an Extension to File Your Tax Return

Worth knowing when you call AT&T: the IRS charges employers per-form penalties for late W-2s, running as high as $340 per statement after August 1 and $680 for intentional failure.7Internal Revenue Service. Information Return Penalties AT&T has every financial reason to get you the form.

Fixing Errors on Your W-2

If something on the form is wrong, whether that’s wages, withholding, a misspelled name, or state tax attributed to the wrong state, call the AT&T Benefits Center at 877-722-0020 or HR OneStop at 888-722-1787. Point to the specific box number and have supporting documentation ready, like final pay stubs or a separation agreement showing severance terms.

AT&T corrects the form by issuing a W-2c, which they also file with the Social Security Administration.8Internal Revenue Service. About Form W-2 C, Corrected Wage and Tax Statements The SSA tells employers to issue a W-2c “as soon as possible” after discovering an error, with no fixed statutory number of days.9Social Security Administration. Helpful Hints to Forms W-2c/W-3c Filing In practice, large employers usually take a few weeks. If you’ve waited more than 30 days without a response, call the IRS at 800-829-1040 to escalate.

If you haven’t filed yet, wait for the W-2c. If you already filed with the incorrect W-2, file Form 1040-X to amend once the corrected form arrives. The W-2c also covers Boxes 15 through 17, so a state-withholding error following a relocation can be fixed the same way, though you may need to amend a state return as well.

Getting Prior-Year W-2 Forms

The HR Access portal stores several years of past W-2s. Log in, go to Tax Services, and pick the year. If the year you need isn’t there, or you can’t get into the portal at all, call the Benefits Center at 877-722-0020 and ask for a manual search.

Three other routes don’t involve AT&T at all.

IRS Wage and Income Transcript

The fastest option is the IRS Individual Online Account at irs.gov. Register or log in and request a Wage and Income Transcript, which shows the data reported on every W-2 and 1099 filed under your Social Security number. It’s free, covers the current year and nine prior years, and current-year data usually populates in the first week of February.10Internal Revenue Service. Transcript Types for Individuals and Ways to Order Them

One thing to know: a transcript is not a photocopy of the original W-2. It has the same dollar amounts in a different format. Most lenders, agencies, and tax preparers accept it, but if someone specifically wants the original form, you’ll need another route.

Form 4506-T by Mail

If the online tool isn’t an option, file Form 4506-T to get the same Wage and Income Transcript by mail. Transcripts are free. Processing takes several weeks, so plan ahead. If you need an actual photocopy of the W-2 as it was attached to a filed return, that requires Form 4506, which has a fee and a longer wait.11Internal Revenue Service. Social Security Administration Records

The SSA holds W-2 data back to 1978. Mail a written request to the SSA’s Office of Earnings and International Operations in Baltimore with your Social Security number, the exact name on your card, the years you need, and the reason for the request. For non-Social Security purposes such as tax filing, the SSA charges $62 per request, payable to the Social Security Administration by check or money order.12Social Security Administration. How Can I Get a Copy of My Wage and Tax Statements (Form W-2)? It’s the slowest and most expensive path, so save it for records older than the ten-year IRS window or situations where a transcript isn’t enough.
