To access your Santander tax documents, log in to Santander online banking or the mobile app and open the section labeled Statements and Documents or e-Documents. Your forms are posted there as PDFs you can view, save, or print, and the digital copies are usually available before the paper versions reach your mailbox.
Finding Your Forms in Online Banking
Sign in through the web portal or the mobile app and look for Statements and Documents (some menus label it e-Documents). Tax forms are stored alongside your account statements as downloadable PDFs. Save a copy for your records before you hand anything to a preparer or upload it into tax software.
If you’d rather not receive paper in the mail at all, switch to paperless delivery in your account settings. Enrolling counts as your agreement to receive required tax disclosures like Form 1099-INT and Form 1098 electronically. You can still print a copy from the portal any time, and customer service can mail one on request, though the bank may charge a small fee for extra paper copies.
Which Forms to Expect
What Santander sends depends on the accounts you hold and how much activity ran through them.
Form 1099-INT
Reports interest earned on checking, savings, or money market accounts. Banks generally must issue it when you earn $10 or more in interest, or any time federal tax was withheld.1IRS. About Form 1099-INT You still have to report interest under $10 even if no form arrives.2IRS. Tax Topic 403
Form 1098
Reports mortgage interest. Santander sends it when it receives $600 or more in interest and points from you during the year.3IRS. IRS Instructions for Form 1098 – Section: Specific Instructions If you itemize, the interest may be deductible.
Form 1099-B
Reports proceeds from selling stocks, bonds, or other securities in a brokerage account.4IRS. About Form 1099-B For covered securities, the form also carries your cost basis and whether the gain or loss is short- or long-term.
Retirement Account Forms
Form 1099-R reports retirement account distributions of $10 or more.5IRS. About Form 1099-R Form 5498 reports IRA contributions and the year-end value of the account.
When Your Documents Should Arrive
Most Santander tax forms have to be furnished to you by January 31. If that date falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline shifts to the next business day.6IRS. Form 1099-B for brokerage transactions has a later standard deadline of February 15.7Office of the Law Revision Counsel. 26 U.S.C. § 6045 – Section: (b) Statements to be furnished to customers Form 5498 typically arrives much later, because IRA contributions can be made right up to the filing deadline.8IRS. If a Form Is Missing or Wrong
Check the online portal first. Digital copies post before mailed ones, and a form you thought never came may already be sitting under Statements and Documents.
If it isn’t there by mid-February, reach Santander through the tax inquiry line or the secure message center inside online banking. Customer service can confirm whether a form was generated and reissue it.
For an error, such as an interest figure that doesn’t match your records, contact the bank and ask for a correction. Have your account statements or loan records handy so the bank can verify the discrepancy. Once confirmed, they’ll issue a corrected form to you and to the IRS, marked with the “corrected” checkbox.9IRS. IRS Instructions for Information Returns – Section: H. Corrected Returns on Paper Forms
If a form still hasn’t arrived when the filing deadline is close, the IRS lets you estimate the amounts on your return rather than file late.10IRS. IRS News: How to file when taxpayers have incorrect or missing documents
If a Corrected Form Arrives After You File
You may need to amend the return. That’s generally the case when the new numbers change the income or tax you reported. File Form 1040-X, explain what changed, and attach any corrected forms the instructions call for, such as a 1099-R showing withholding.11IRS.
